What is ODBC/SQL and how does it work?

Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is an industry-wide standard adopted by software developers to provide a standard way for software programs to share access to data in a Windows environment.  This means that information from your Juris software can be automatically incorporated in reports, mail merges, spreadsheets and other documents created in your Windows applications. Most current versions of popular Windows software for spreadsheets, databases, word processing and report writing support the ODBC standard.

Juris ODBC/SQL Capabilities

The Juris ODBC/SQL Capability allows you to use any of a large number of Windows-based software products to extract, view, report and analyze Juris information in an endless number of formats.  No "exporting" and "importing" of data is required, and Windows files you create can be used again and again.  The underlying Juris data is updated with just a few keystrokes or the click of a mouse.   For example, you can:

  • Create analysis spreadsheets and graphs of Timekeeper productivity statistics using a spreadsheet program.

  • Perform a mail merge with a form letter to all clients who formed a new corporation in a particular month last year, with addresses and contact names from your billing system.

  • Produce custom management reports for one-time or permanent use using a database or report writing tool.

  • Plug your attorney compensation formula into a spreadsheet and have it automatically get the necessary data from Juris each month;

  • Produce special billing summaries or recapitulations to comply with client-mandated billing requests.

  • And much more... The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
