Database Explanations and Requirements

cTree - Best for small operations (less than 5 concurrent users) and a small to moderate number of modules. No on-site IT staff is required. Adequate overall performance measures. Read-only ODBC access.

Pervasive.SQL 2000 - Best for small to medium operations. Preferred database choice for NetWare systems. High-speed data access with minimal configuration requirements. No on site IT staff is required. Does not support eOrder internet commerce module.

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - Best overall performance for any size operation. Fully scalable. Preferred database choice for Microsoft NT systems. On-site IT staff is highly recommended. Supports eOrder, Siebel Front Office, transaction and rollback features in General Ledger.

These hardware requirements are provided by Great Plains. We strongly recommend you follow these guidelines, especially for daily users of the software. Inadequate computer components are the largest source of poor performance - and one that we cannot fix. We also strongly recommend, at the minimum, a full 100 megabit network (100 base T Ethernet). If you do not have this type of network, we then recommend at least segmenting the network for the accounting users in order to install a 100 Mb network for their segment.

The requirements for the SQL Server will deliver the best performance. If you are considering the SQL Server platform as your server/database choice, it is imperative that you follow the above guidelines. The SQL Server will bog down, impairing performance, if the hardware requirements are not fully met.
